Access statement (see details for St Georges Guest House below this statement)
Introduction
The Guest House is on a quiet residential street, just off the sea front. We have seven guest rooms of various sizes. The guesthouse is about 150 years old, which means some rooms are much more spacious than in many bed and breakfast establishments. It does mean there are some old fashioned features, which might make access more difficult for the less mobile. There is one step up to the front door. There are three steps down to the dining room. None of the rooms are suitable for wheelchair users as there is not enough room to access the en-suite facilities. We do have some ground floor rooms, which might be suitable for minor mobility impairments. Please telephone for more details.
Pre-arrival
On arrival you may park outside on the street - parking is unrestricted. You will find it easy to find a space earlier in the day. We do have some off street parking at the rear of the guesthouse. This is accessed via a roller shutter, which requires service for opening and closing.
The nearest 'corner shop' is about five minutes walk away. There is a garage, which is open long hours (till 10.00pm); about ten to fifteen minutes walk away.
There is a bus stop about three minutes walk away at the end of the back lane. You can get the bus to the city centre (two miles away) from there. Service is more limited at night.
A taxi to the city centre costs about £5. There are plenty of taxis available most of the time.
It is about a fifteen-minute walk to the nearest metro station - Stadium Of Light. The first few minutes walk from the metro station is on a tarmac footpath over grassland. It is well lit.
There is no taxi service from Stadium Of Light Metro. There is ample free parking at Stadium Of Light Metro for trips to Newcastle etc.
If you are arriving by metro, you may prefer to get off at Sunderland Central. There is a taxi rank outside. Or you can get the 19 bus from Fawcett Street. This stops outside the guesthouse. Better service in the daytime.
We do not take any pets of any description. Guide Dogs excepted.
Our website at www.abingdonguesthouse.co.uk provides a lot of information about the guesthouse.
You can contact us by phone, text or e-mail. We do not have a fax machine.
Arrival
We need an estimate of your arrival time. EG: Between 1PM and 2PM. You can phone at any time to alter the arrangement. Arrivals are between 11.00AM and 10.00PM subject to availability. You may be able to drop your bags and get a key, even if your room is not ready.
There is a laminated sheet in each room with details of many services the guesthouse has to offer, and several local services - eg: doctor.
